Last October, Muhtar Kent, CEO of the Coca-Cola Company wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal, “Coke Didn’t Make America Fat,” where he argued that sodas should not be taxed because sedentary lifestyle should be blamed for obesity in America – not Coke. Now, after the announcement of a new initiative by First Lady Michelle Obama to stop childhood obesity, Coca-Cola and Pepsi are teaming up to make their nutrition labels more straightforward.
According to the American Beverage Association, and reported in EIN Presswire both Coca-Cola and Pepsi will create better caloric content labels for their products. Beginning this summer, calories will be marked on the front of packages, vending machines and soda fountains. Furthermore, labels will display the total calories contained in a bottle or can of a beverage, not just a calories-per-serving figure, which some believe is deceptive.
