A new study out of the University of Oxford has found a genetic link between low birth weight and the development of type 2 diabetes.
According to the BBC most of the existing has research focused on environmental factors when trying to explain the connection between lower birth weight and risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The new study found that a babies who inherit a genetic variant in a gene called ADCY5 which is connected to a 25% risk increase of future diabetes, also weigh less at birth.
