I am a 56 year old female, 5′ 9″ 178 lbs with fasting blood sugars in the mid 90′s to 112. Some carbs send my blood sugar in the 160′s, 170′s. I had a glucose tolerance test over 10 years ago and was 189 after an hour and a half. I kept testing at home and went down to 60 after 5 hours, even after eating. Sometimes exercise after breakfast will give me a blood sugar in the 60′s or 70′s and I feel shaky and ‘not right’. My last A1C at a health screening was 6.0. I’m trying to lose weight (goal 150 lbs – have been 180 for over 2 years) and exercise 30 mins. daily. Should I be seeing a doctor for medication ? My health insurance has a $10,000 deductible before it pays anything so I only see a doctor if it’s a crisis. Should I see a doctor ?
