{"id":12215,"date":"2010-11-28T11:25:01","date_gmt":"2010-11-28T16:25:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=12215"},"modified":"2015-12-29T06:46:29","modified_gmt":"2015-12-29T11:46:29","slug":"consider-adding-some-weight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=12215","title":{"rendered":"Consider Adding Some Weight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/iStock_Barbell.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-12219 lazyload\" style=\"margin: 4px;\" title=\"Barbell\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/iStock_Barbell-201x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"141\" height=\"210\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/iStock_Barbell-201x300.jpg 201w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/iStock_Barbell.jpg 284w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 141px) 100vw, 141px\" \/><\/a>While many of us already engage in aerobic exercise to help control our blood sugar levels, a new study has shown that for type 2 diabetics, this type of exercise might not be enough.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/jama.ama-assn.org\/cgi\/content\/abstract\/304\/20\/2253\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a> published in <em>The Journal of the American Medical Association<\/em> examined the benefits of aerobic trainingalone, resistance training alone, and a combination of bothon hemoglobin A1cin individuals with <a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/diabetes\/type-2-diabetes\/\">type 2 diabetes<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The study followed 262 sedentary men and women in Louisiana withtype 2 diabetes and HbA<sub>1c<\/sub> levels of 6.5% or higher, who were enrolledin the 9-month exercise program between April 2007 and August2009.\u00a0 The participants were randomly divided\u00a0 into four groups \u2014 73 assigned to resistance training three days a week, 72 to aerobic exercise, 76 to the combination and 41 to a non-exercise comparison group.<\/p>\n<p>The results concluded that among patients with type 2 diabetes,a combination of aerobic and resistance training compared withthe nonexercise control group improved HbA1c levels.
