Since my wife and I both have diabetes and we run a diabetes website, I spend more than enough time reading about diabetes.\u00a0 When I get some down time I like to escape into other worlds, usually reading historical books like the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/1400033918\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=asw07-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=1400033918\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Anatomy of Fascism<\/a> by Robert Paxton or mysteries like Jo Nesbo&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B003SNJYSK\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=asw07-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B003SNJYSK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Red Breast<\/a>.<br \/>\n When I first heard about the memoir\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0312610238\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=asw07-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0312610238\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Not Dead Yet<\/a> by champion cyclist, Phil Southerland, I wondered how I would feel reading it.\u00a0 Would it be <em>just another diabetes book<\/em>? After just a few pages I knew that it was not.\u00a0 I enjoyed it from the start.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In <em>Not Dead Yet\u00a0Phil Southerland\u00a0<\/em>tells his story from diagnosis with type 1 diabetes at 7 months to leading his own cycling team, Team Type 1.\u00a0 Southerland tells his story with such charm and humility that it makes you not only respect him for his amazing accomplishments, but also really like him.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The book is a must read not only for those affected by diabetes, but for anyone in need of some inspiration.You may even get the urge to go out and buy a bike.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t usually read &#8220;diabetes&#8221; books, at least not for pleasure reading.
