{"id":19202,"date":"2011-08-28T11:10:07","date_gmt":"2011-08-28T15:10:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=19202"},"modified":"2016-09-25T05:03:00","modified_gmt":"2016-09-25T09:03:00","slug":"summer-reading-jessica-apple-recommends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=19202","title":{"rendered":"Summer Reading: Jessica Apple Recommends\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Everything-Is-Going-to-Be-Great.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-19228 lazyload\" title=\"Everything Is Going to Be Great\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/08\/Everything-Is-Going-to-Be-Great.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"185\" height=\"279\" \/><\/a>Are you looking for a good book to take along on your vacation this summer?\u00a0 All summer ASweetLife\u2019s bloggers and contributors will be sharing some of their favorites.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Can you think of line that&#8217;s better than the title of this book for a doctor to tell someone as she&#8217;s being diagnosed with diabetes?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Instead of: <em>You&#8217;ve got diabetes, now you need to start worrying about losing your toes, sight, and kidney function, <\/em>the doctor would sa<em>y, <\/em><em>You&#8217;ve got diabetes.\u00a0 Just take care of yourself.\u00a0 <strong>Everything is going to be great<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the memoir <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0055X5S8G\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=asw07-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B0055X5S8G\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Everything Is Going to be Great, An Underfunded and Overexposed European Grand Tour<\/a>, Rachel Shukert tells of her experience as a young, American woman living abroad.\u00a0 Most of the book takes place in Amsterdam, and Shukert&#8217;s observations of the Dutch, and just about everything else are spot-on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The book is original, smart, hilarious, and thoughtful.\u00a0 And what&#8217;s really amazing is that you will notice those four things on almost every page.\u00a0 While you&#8217;re reading <em>Everything<\/em>, every so often you&#8217;ll have to take a break from laughing in order to cringe.\u00a0 But no matter what she&#8217;s done, you&#8217;ll be so in love with Shukert, you&#8217;ll stop cringing and start praying she lands on her feet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rachel Shukert is an incredible storyteller.\u00a0 I highly recommend her first memoir, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0345498615\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=asw07-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=0345498615\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Have You No Shame? And Other Regrettable Stories<\/a>, which I love even more than <em>Everything<\/em>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Are you looking for a good book to take along on your vacation this summer?
