{"id":24254,"date":"2012-02-02T10:18:55","date_gmt":"2012-02-02T15:18:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=24254"},"modified":"2016-01-08T03:51:20","modified_gmt":"2016-01-08T08:51:20","slug":"9-low-carb-snacks-for-superbowl-sunday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=24254","title":{"rendered":"9 Low Carb Snacks for Super Bowl Sunday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My bat mitzvah was a disaster for many reasons, the most obvious one being that it took place on Super Bowl Sunday.\u00a0 As you can imagine, people had football and buffalo wings on their minds and were just waiting for the end of my Cyndi Lauper inspired, feminist bat mitzvah speech.\u00a0 I know this because when I looked up from my speech and prayers, I noticed the many people checking their watches. And of course, no one wanted to hang around after the service.\u00a0 Guests shouted &#8220;mazel tov&#8221; in my direction and bolted for the door.\u00a0 Only a few women over eighty stayed to snack on the dry sponge cake and challah.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be honest, those are really, truly lousy snacks, especially for a Superbowl Sunday.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not just saying that because they&#8217;re high carb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Having learned my lesson about Super Bowl Sunday the hard way, I now feel I can help others avoid making the same mistake.\u00a0 My advice to you, then, is not to dress up in a stiff, shiny blue dress and celebrate your coming of age this weekend, but rather to plop down in front of the TV with your family and friends and watch football.\u00a0 And be sure to have low carb snacks around so your blood sugar doesn&#8217;t skyrocket during the game.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Here are some of our favorite low carb snacks:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Buffalo-Spiced-Nuts-Carolyn-Ketchum-small.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24262 alignright lazyload\" title=\"Buffalo Spiced Nuts - Carolyn Ketchum - small\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Buffalo-Spiced-Nuts-Carolyn-Ketchum-small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"135\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/a-sweet-life-staff\/recipes\/meal-type\/snacks\/buffalo-spiced-cocktail-nuts\/20476\/\" target=\"_blank\">Buffalo Spiced Cocktail Nuts<\/a>: Our culinary contributor Carolyn Ketchum, who writes the blog <a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/a-sweet-life-staff\/featured\/9-low-carb-snacks-for-superbowl-sunday\/24254\/dream\" target=\"_blank\">All Day I Dream About Food <\/a>shared this recipe with us.\u00a0 She says, &#8220;If you like Buffalo-flavored things, these nuts are a must-try, low carb snack. They are simple to make, so it\u2019s easy to whip up a batch for a party or on game-day. Or just for having around the house for snacking. My husband couldn\u2019t stop picking at them when he came home from work. small\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Oven-Baked-Cauliflower-small.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"133\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/a-sweet-life-staff\/recipes\/meal-type\/side-dish\/oven-baked-cauliflower\/7394\/\" target=\"_blank\">Oven Roasted Cauliflower<\/a>: If you cut this into small florets before cooking, and roast it until it&#8217;s crispy on top, people will eat it like it&#8217;s popcorn. \u00a0I&#8217;m willing to bet a dish will be devoured in minutes.\u00a0 (The recipe calls for bread crumbs, but you really don&#8217;t need them at all.)\u00a0 For us, this isn&#8217;t just a game-day snack, but a household staple.\u00a0 It shows up on our dinner table several times a week, and is more filling than any carb I can think of.\u00a0 And it will barely budge your blood sugar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/Kale-Pesto-Comfy-Belly-small1.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-24274 alignright lazyload\" title=\"Kale Pesto -
