{"id":2432,"date":"2009-11-09T08:38:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-09T13:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=2432"},"modified":"2015-12-27T15:45:38","modified_gmt":"2015-12-27T20:45:38","slug":"one-up-on-chocolate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=2432","title":{"rendered":"One Up On Chocolate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I was so pleased with the responses that came into my post \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/jessica-apple\/blogs\/food-nutrition-blogs\/feed-me-chocolate\/2368\/\">Feed Me Chocolate<\/a>.\u201d \u00a0\u201cLook, Mike,\u201d I said. \u201cPeople like my blog!\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNo,\u201d he answered.\u00a0 \u201cThey just like chocolate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He\u2019s right.\u00a0 Chocolate is definitely more exciting than I am. \u00a0But heh, heh, chocolate can\u2019t blog about itself so I\u2019ve got one up- for now\u2026Two kind readers, however, have alerted me to an all mighty chocolate: Xo\u00e7ai\u2122. \u00a0Harder to spell, but apparently, much healthier than M&amp;M\u2019s, Xo\u00e7ai\u2122 is some sort of antioxidant-rich superfood. Diana McCalla says, it has \u201cno preservatives, no processed sugars, no bad fats, no caffeine and it tastes like the most decadent Belgium chocolate you have ever tasted.\u201d\u00a0 Sounds pretty great, and I don\u2019t even require any sort of Euro decadence.\u00a0 I\u2019m good with Hershey\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But I think I\u2019ve already established that Hershey\u2019s fun candy is out of the question for me, and Xo\u00e7ai\u2122\u2026I don\u2019t know\u2026I haven\u2019t tried it, but I\u2019m not sold on it yet.\u00a0 I&#8217;d be willing to taste any of the products, just not the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cocoa101.com\/\">nuggets<\/a> because the word nuggets grosses me out. \u00a0Which leads me back to the very processed, sugary, trans-fatty dark chocolate in my supermarket\u2026 I asked Mike to pick some up last night for another experiment. \u00a0\u201cLet\u2019s go for 70% this time,\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mike is an adventurous guy, and he came home with not one, but two 70% bars. \u00a0The first was plain bitterness. \u00a0The second, bitter chocolate with smashed up pieces of bitter coffee beans. \u00a0\u201cYum,\u201d I said.\u00a0 \u201cSo this is what it tastes like to chew on a Tylenol caplet and a capsule of penicillin at the same time.\u201d (*note- I love coffee, but chewing on the beans\u2026not for me).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The next part of the experiment involved letting the chocolate dissolve on my tongue, per reader advice. \u00a0Mike and I both tried it.\u00a0 Mike is generally more cheerful than I am, and he seemed pretty content with the whole thing. \u00a0He had a glass of red wine in his hand, a soccer game on TV&#8230;
