\"\"<\/a>The newly approved type 2 diabetes drug\u00a0 Bydureon, made by Amylin Pharmaceuticals and Alkermes plc, is now available by prescription in U.S. pharmacies.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
Bydureon is the first and only once-weekly treatment for type 2 diabetes.\u00a0 It was approved by the US FDA<\/a> on January 27th 2012\u00a0as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes. The approval was based on safety and efficacy data from the DURATION clinical trial program, in which treatment with\u00a0 Bydureon\u00a0\u00a0resulted in improvements in glycemic control in a once-weekly dose.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Bydureon\u00a0is provided in a straightforward single-dose tray so that patients can self-administer the once-weekly subcutaneous injection. To help patients get off to a successful start, Amylin offers Bydureon\u00a0\u00a0Steady Support for patients and healthcare providers.\u00a0 Bydureon\u00a0Steady Support offerings include flexible resources for healthcare providers and their patients to learn about\u00a0 Bydureon, how to administer it and how to sign up to receive ongoing support to help manage type 2 diabetes. This support will include access to\u00a0 Bydureon\u00a0specialists seven days a week via a toll-free number, interactive tutorials online and the opportunity to schedule in-person training sessions with a diabetes educator.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Amylin says it is committed to assisting patients with diabetes in accessing coverage for\u00a0 Bydureon. Eligible patients will have access to the\u00a0 Bydureon\u00a0Steady Savings Card to help offset copay costs. With the Steady Savings Card, these patients can save up to $50 per month on Bydureon\u00a0prescriptions for up to 24 months. A patient assistance program is also available for eligible patients who have been prescribed\u00a0 Bydureon\u00a0but do not have insurance for prescription drugs.
