I don’t have any makeup, but by God, do I have a lot of extra triple A batteries.

Anyway, this is my first time in Cincinnati and I’ve been intrigued by some of the food choices here. Like, for example, Skyline Chili, a restaurant where, as far as I can tell, everything comes with a scoop of chili on top of it. Hot dogs, French fries, baked potatoes — as I told my friend, Sarah, it’s what food would look like if America threw up. (She, in turn, pointed out that the shredded cheese looks like orange pubic hair — an excellent, disgusting point.) Apparently the most popular option is a dish of spaghetti with chili on top, where the pasta has congealed into a sort of solid block, a state reminiscent of kugel (if kugel came with meat sauce).

I can’t say that I’d be lining up for some Skyline spaghetti if I didn’t have diabetes, but whoo, would it be a blood sugar disaster if I tried to eat a plate of this local delicacy with a malfunctioning pancreas. I just checked out their nutritional information page and — spoiler alert! — it’s not very good for you. Take, for example, the Black Bean and Rice Five-Way Large. In addition to sounding kind of naughty, it also happens to have 1240 calories, 58 grams of fat, and 121 grams of carbohydrates.

I like to try new foods when I travel, but I think this is a case where it’d be safer to stick to a salad.

[1501
327,329,328

Skyline and Sky High - Traveling with Diabetes

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://asweetlife.org/?p=2647","url":"https://asweetlife.org/?p=2647","name":"Skyline and Sky High - Traveling with Diabetes","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://asweetlife.org/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://asweetlife.org/?p=2647#primaryimage"},"image":{"@id":"https://asweetlife.org/?p=2647#primaryimage"},"thumbnailUrl":"https://asweetlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ASL-Social-Big-Square-3.jpg","datePublished":"2009-11-15T06:27:10+00:00","dateModified":"2015-12-27T20:44:33+00:00","author":{"@id":"https://asweetlife.org/#/schema/person/f16ebb52b0d6b1882336149c48618b74"},"breadcrumb":{"@id":"https://asweetlife.org/?p=2647#breadcrumb"},"inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://asweetlife.org/?p=2647"]}]},{"@type":"ImageObject","inLanguage":"en-US","@id":"https://asweetlife.org/?p=2647#primaryimage","url":"https://asweetlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ASL-Social-Big-Square-3.jpg","contentUrl":"https://asweetlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/ASL-Social-Big-Square-3.jpg","width":1280,"height":1280},{"@type":"BreadcrumbList","@id":"https://asweetlife.org/?p=2647#breadcrumb","itemListElement":[{"@type":"ListItem","position":1,"name":"Home","item":"https://asweetlife.org/"},{"@type":"ListItem","position":2,"name":"Skyline and Sky High"}]},{"@type":"WebSite","@id":"https://asweetlife.org/#website","url":"https://asweetlife.org/","name":"ASweetLife","description":"The Diabetes Magazine","potentialAction":[{"@type":"SearchAction","target":{"@type":"EntryPoint","urlTemplate":"https://asweetlife.org/?s={search_term_string}"},"query-input":"required name=search_term_string"}],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"Person","@id":"https://asweetlife.org/#/schema/person/f16ebb52b0d6b1882336149c48618b74","name":"Catherine Price","image":{"@type":"ImageObject","inLanguage":"en-US","@id":"https://asweetlife.org/#/schema/person/image/","url":"https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/991f86d105bb54022be9be587aa788fa?s=96&d=mm&r=g","contentUrl":"https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/991f86d105bb54022be9be587aa788fa?s=96&d=mm&r=g","caption":"Catherine Price"},"description":"Catherine Price was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 22 years old.
