{"id":30215,"date":"2012-09-05T08:22:46","date_gmt":"2012-09-05T12:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=30215"},"modified":"2015-12-27T15:41:48","modified_gmt":"2015-12-27T20:41:48","slug":"running-again-and-feeling-better","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=30215","title":{"rendered":"Running Again and Feeling Better"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Last week, a day before my birthday (Wednesday) and exactly two weeks after my surgery, I went running for the first time. I ran one mile at a very slow pace and although it hurt I was happy to be running again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Two days later, on Friday morning, I ran again this time one and a half miles and a little faster. It still hurt but less. I ran again on Sunday (2 miles) and on Tuesday (3 miles). Each run was not only longer, but also less painful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Kettlebells.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30218 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Kettlebells-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Kettlebells-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Kettlebells-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/Kettlebells.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>I have also started to do a little strength work. I bought some kettlebells and a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B000K7EPLS\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B000K7EPLS&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=asw07-20\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">fit ball<\/a> and have started using them (and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B002YIA6SM\/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B002YIA6SM&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=asw07-20\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">TRX<\/a>) to try and strengthen my body to avoid any more injury.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Both Jessica and my running coach think I started to exercise again too soon after the surgery, but I couldn\u2019t wait any longer. The surgeon who \u201cfixed\u201d me said I could do anything I wanted and that there was no danger of the surgery coming undone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf you feel pain just take it down a notch,\u201d he said to me.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cSo as long as I can handle the pain I can do anything?\u201d I asked, trying to make sure I understood correctly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cGood,\u201d I said. \u201cI\u2019m used too running with pain.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I know I need to pace myself and give myself time, but getting back into my running shoes has made a difference in how I feel physically and mentally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">My blood sugar has also started to come down. I haven\u2019t had a low yet but my numbers are no longer in the 200\u2019s all of the time. I\u2019m still waking up a little high \u2013 120 \u2013 160 \u2013 but most of the day is normal. My insulin requirements also seem to be coming down.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I don\u2019t know how much of this has to do with running and how much has to do with inflammation, but I feel like I\u2019m getting back to my old self, maybe even better.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:
