When I say \u201cthings\u201d what I\u2019m really referring to are my blood sugar levels. I haven\u2019t had a low yet (not that I really want one) but for the last week my morning blood sugar levels have been 100 \u2013 125, and I even woke up 89 on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">This great improvement has come together with my return to running and \u00a0I\u2019ve also seen a decrease in insulin requirements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">After my surgery it seemed like no matter how much insulin I took my blood sugar levels wouldn\u2019t come down. For the first 2-3 days after surgery, they stayed above 200. A few days later they were in the 150-180 range and then, a couple of weeks after surgery, they came down again to what seemed to be normal levels, but I required much more insulin than normal to keep them there. Even cutting out quinoa (my only real carb) from my diet didn\u2019t help.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/7-Day-Average-.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30421 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/7-Day-Average--300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/7-Day-Average--300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/7-Day-Average--150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/7-Day-Average-.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>But last week things seemed to suddenly change.\u00a0 As I felt better and started running more, my insulin requirements dropped. And after weeks of correction boluses I didn\u2019t need them. I know there is not just one reason for this change, but I also know that running deserves much of the credit. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">I\u2019m still far from my 50+ mile weeks, but this week I ran 4 times, running 6-7 miles each time at a decent pace.\u00a0 I still have some pain when I run but nothing like before the surgery and nothing like when I retuned to running three weeks ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Running again has put me in a much better mood.
