Tom didn\u2019t want a big party so we invited a few of his friends over for a movie and pizza.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jessica made popcorn, using coconut oil, instead of olive oil.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI\u2019ve read that coconut oil is what makes movie theater popcorn taste so much better,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI thought it was the chemicals,\u201d I replied.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jessica and I haven\u2019t been to the movies for years, so we\u2019re not very up-to-date on movie theater food and I have to confess I don\u2019t remember much about movie theater popcorn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">When Jessica\u2019s popcorn was ready I couldn\u2019t resist trying it. I don\u2019t usually eat popcorn, both because it\u2019s not paleo and because I consider it mindless eating, but it was there, it smelled good, and I tried it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jessica was right (as usual). It did taste better and did have the movie theater smell.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The problem with popcorn is that you can keep eating it even when you\u2019re not hungry. It\u2019s hard not to. So I ate some popcorn, don\u2019t know how much, but I didn\u2019t think it was very much. I didn\u2019t bolus for it either (mindless eating).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Toms-Boggle-Birthday-Cake.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-30652 lazyload\" title=\"Tom's Boggle Birthday Cake\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Toms-Boggle-Birthday-Cake.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"384\" height=\"256\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Toms-Boggle-Birthday-Cake.jpg 480w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Toms-Boggle-Birthday-Cake-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 384px) 100vw, 384px\" \/><\/a>The kids watched the movie, played and ate pizza. At around 7:00 p.m. it was finally cake time (of course I didn\u2019t have any). The cake was another one of Jessica\u2019s great ideas \u2013 a Boggle cake that said HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOM. (Boggle has become very popular in our home over the last few weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At around 8:30 after all of Tom\u2019s friends had gone, Jessica and I finally sat down for dinner (we had resisted the pizza too, not just the cake). I checked my blood sugar and was surprised by the result \u2013 217. I bolused and ate my low carb dinner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A couple hours later, while in bed reading I started to feel extremely tired, the kind of tired where you can\u2019t keep your eyes open no matter what.\u00a0 Sleep takes over. I checked my blood sugar again. It was 258.
