{"id":31417,"date":"2012-12-07T08:30:03","date_gmt":"2012-12-07T13:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?post_type=recipes&#038;p=31417"},"modified":"2016-02-16T04:51:06","modified_gmt":"2016-02-16T09:51:06","slug":"hearty-low-carb-fish-chowder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=31417","title":{"rendered":"Hearty Low Carb Fish Chowder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>L<\/strong><strong>ow carb fish chowder<\/strong> is hearty, full of cream, lightly flavoured with fish or clams, and it fills you up with goodness and warms you to your toes. \u00a0Typical chowders are often so thick, your spoon can stand straight up in them. \u00a0They can be like concrete.\u00a0 And all that thickness comes from flour, which let\u2019s face it, really isn\u2019t good for you.\u00a0 It only makes it\u00a0<em>seem<\/em>\u00a0heartier, when really it\u2019s filling you up with empty carbs.\u00a0 Add to that the potatoes that are standard in Boston Clam Chowder and you\u2019ve got yourself a carb-filled soup with little nutrition to recommend it. \u00a0The truth is, low carb fish chowder is far more satisfying.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even before I followed a low carb diet, I always skipped the flour in my fish chowder in favour of a thinner broth.\u00a0 So I suppose my version was always gluten-free.\u00a0 In the past few years, I\u2019ve figured out a great sub for the potatoes to make it a truly\u00a0low carb fish chowder.\u00a0 Radish may seem like a strange substitute for potatoes, but not if it\u2019s daikon radish.\u00a0 Say what?\u00a0 Yep, that was my first reaction too; what was this huge, white radish I\u2019d never heard of?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Daikon is a really mild, white radish that resembles potatoes when chopped. \u00a0It&#8217;s a perfect low carb substitute for potatoes.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, you wouldn\u2019t be able to tell the daikon from potatoes for a second unless I told you that\u2019s what they were.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div id=\"zlrecipe-container-207\" class=\"zlrecipe-container-border\" >\n<div id=\"zlrecipe-container\" class=\"serif zlrecipe\">\n  <div class=\"recipeRating\"><div id=\"post-ratings-31417\" class=\"post-ratings\" data-nonce=\"da2d9bf3e5\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"rating_31417_1\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-postratings\/images\/asweetlife_stars\/rating_on.gif\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" onmouseover=\"current_rating(31417, 1, '');\" onmouseout=\"ratings_off(3.4, 4, 0);\" onclick=\"rate_post();\" onkeypress=\"rate_post();\" style=\"cursor: pointer; Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper-towel lined plate.\r\n          <\/li>\n                            <li class=\"instruction \" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">\n          Add onion and daikon radish to bacon grease and cook until onions are tender, about 10 minutes.\r\n          <\/li>\n                            <li class=\"instruction \" itemprop=\"recipeInstructions\">\n          Add chicken stock and simmer 10 minutes.
