  1. \"\"<\/a>When I\u2019m sitting in your exam room don\u2019t talk to another doctor or a nurse about me as if I\u2019m not there.<\/li>\n
  2. I may not have a medical degree, but that does not mean you know more about my body than I do.<\/li>\n
  3. Listen, listen, listen, listen, listen, listen!<\/li>\n
  4. Ask the right questions.\u00a0 Don\u2019t say \u201cWhy is your A1c 8%?\u201d\u00a0 We both know my A1c is out of range because I have diabetes.\u00a0 Instead say, \u201cI see that your A1c is higher than we\u2019d like it to be.\u00a0 Let\u2019s try to figure out where and why you\u2019re having problems.\u201d<\/li>\n
  5. If my lab reports aren\u2019t perfect, don\u2019t assume I\u2019m doing something bad.<\/li>\n
  6. Understand that I come to you when I am needy, scared, or I don\u2019t feel well.\u00a0 Be gentle and kind when I am down. \u00a0Don’t add to my anxiety.<\/li>\n
  7. Don\u2019t give me prescriptions for medications without explaining why you are choosing a particular medication and what the side effects might be.<\/li>\n
  8. Don\u2019t send me to do tests without telling me what you\u2019re testing for. \u00a0Be honest and straightforward with me, but don’t frighten me unnecessarily.<\/li>\n
  9. Remember that I am a person \u2013 not a bunch of numbers.\u00a0<\/li>\n
  10. Don\u2019t dismiss my questions.\u00a0 If I\u2019m asking it\u2019s because I don\u2019t understand and I want to understand.<\/li>\n
  11. Be respectful if I don\u2019t think the medication or treatment you are prescribing is right for me.\u00a0 Don\u2019t automatically get angry or annoyed.<\/li>\n
  12. If you don\u2019t have enough time to be my doctor, don\u2019t take me as your patient.<\/li>\n
  13. \u00a0Don\u2019t get offended if I tell you I want a second opinion.<\/li>\n
  14. Let me get dressed before you discuss things with me.<\/li>\n
  15. Do not ever tell me to look things up online because you can\u2019t be bothered to explain.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
