{"id":32797,"date":"2013-05-14T08:41:41","date_gmt":"2013-05-14T12:41:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=32797"},"modified":"2015-12-27T15:43:09","modified_gmt":"2015-12-27T20:43:09","slug":"diabetes-petition-blue-mms-for-the-treatment-of-hypoglycemia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=32797","title":{"rendered":"Diabetes Petition: Blue M&#038;M&#8217;s for the Treatment of Hypoglycemia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dear Mars, Inc., Manufacturer of M&amp;M\u2019s,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the 90s, when I came of voting age, I experienced the joy of voting for President Clinton.\u00a0 I felt as though I were making a difference in the world.\u00a0 I was proud of myself and my contribution to the United States of America as I cast my vote in favor of gun control, higher taxes for the wealthy, a woman\u2019s right to abortion without exception, and so on.\u00a0 Then, just a few years later, in 1995, thanks to you, I had the opportunity to cast my vote on a matter, unlike all that other stuff I mentioned, that truly defined basic American values: the color of our M&amp;M\u2019s. You gave me the power to oust the tan M&amp;M, a color so putrid it was only in dark movie theaters that we could eat it without thinking of baby diarrhea.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I was not alone in my desire for change. 10 million Americans raised their phone receivers to vote on the future color of M&amp;M\u2019s. More than 50% of us chose blue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Blue-mm.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32806 lazyload\" title=\"Blue m&amp;m\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Blue-mm.jpg\" alt=\"Blue m&amp;m\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Blue-mm.jpg 250w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Blue-mm-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the time I based my vote on a several things: First, I was a student at the University of Michigan and \u201cGo Blue!\u201d was one of my regular cheers.\u00a0 Second, I truly believed the world was in need of more blue food. Now, however, as I have become a person with diabetes, blue has a whole new meaning to me. Blue is the color of diabetes awareness. A blue circle is the international symbol of diabetes.\u00a0 I write to you today to ask you to become a diabetes advocate. Help me and my community raise diabetes awareness by declaring the blue M&amp;M the international symbol for the treatment of\u00a0<strong>hypoglycemia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I propose the following: Create a blue M&amp;M that contains one gram of carbohydrate per button.\u00a0 Sell in packages of 15 M&amp;M\u2019s per pack.\u00a0 In order to differentiate between regular packages of M&amp;M\u2019s, I suggest you add to your label \u201cfor the treatment of hypoglyceM&amp;Mia\u201d.\u00a0 (Mars Pharmaceuticals could be your future!) If you agree to do this, and dedicate all of your profits to diabetes research and charities, I will write another petition asking my community to change the O in DOC to a blue M&amp;M.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Blue-Circle-Diabetes-Symbol.png\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-32809 lazyload\" title=\"Blue Circle - Diabetes Symbol\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Blue-Circle-Diabetes-Symbol.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"254\" height=\"232\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Blue-Circle-Diabetes-Symbol.png 254w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Blue-Circle-Diabetes-Symbol-100x90.png 100w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 254px) 100vw, 254px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Now is the time.\u00a0 It\u2019s been 18 years since the blue M&amp;M came to life.\u00a0 Since then diabetes rates have doubled or tripled, or quadrupled!\u00a0 All around the world people are sweating and shaking from hypoglycemia with nothing but barfy, chalky glucose tablets (<a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/feature\/glucolift-glucose-tablets-the-natural-way-to-treat-hypoglycemia\/\" target=\"_blank\">exception: Glucolift<\/a>) to save them from fainting.\u00a0 Blue M&amp;M\u2019s (1g of carb per button) could change the face (and taste) of hypoglycemia.\u00a0 Think of the testimonials you\u2019d get:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Jess Apple: I used to dread hypoglycemia.\u00a0 I ran my blood sugar high all of the time just to avoid going low.\u00a0 Now that I know I can treat accurately with M&amp;M\u2019s, I smile at the thought of hypoglycemia.\u00a0 The days of forgetting to take my insulin are long gone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Mike Aviad: Some people think Mars and their products are responsible for the rising obesity and diabetes epidemic in America.\u00a0 I say, who cares?\u00a0 Unlike all of the other food companies selling crap, Mars is making a difference with Blue M&amp;M\u2019s (1g of carb per button) for the treatment of hypoglyceM&amp;Mia.\u00a0 When I am low, Mars brings me up.\u00a0 Mars cares about people with diabetes.\u00a0 They might be killing us, but they\u2019re also saving our lives.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Anonymous: I love how small and discreet Blue M&amp;M\u2019s (1g of carb per button) are.\u00a0\u00a0 I used to feel ashamed of pulling out bulky glucose tablets in public.\u00a0 Not so with my baby Blues! People think I\u2019m just snacking.
