I love CVS brand Assorted Fruit glucose tablets. The ones in the blue bottle. So does Gary. He doesn\u2019t have diabetes, but munches on them nevertheless. I was visiting my parents recently and I drove to CVS to pick up a few bottles. I guess I hadn\u2019t been to that particular CVS in a while because little did I know there was a section called \u201cDiabetes Testing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Diabetes-Testing-Safe-for-Diabetics1.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-33263 lazyload\" title=\"Diabetes Testing - Safe for Diabetics\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Diabetes-Testing-Safe-for-Diabetics1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"386\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Diabetes-Testing-Safe-for-Diabetics1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Diabetes-Testing-Safe-for-Diabetics1-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I was excited, baffled, and disturbed all at the same time.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The diabetes section made it easy for me to find my glucose tablets. But somehow I felt like something was wrong. My disease \u2013 my complicated, private, serious disease \u2013 was hangin\u2019 out in CVS next to Sleep and Snoring Aids. Is diabetes really that common? That casual? I know that type 2 diabetes is occurring in epidemic proportions, but still.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Glucose-Tabs-CVC1.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-33266 aligncenter lazyload\" title=\"Glucose Tabs - CVC\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Glucose-Tabs-CVC1-1024x689.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"584\" height=\"392\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I wanted to grab my g-tabs and pay, but I was stuck in the aisle. It was more than glucose meters. I was taken by the assortment of miscellaneous products. They were supposedly for me\u2026 diabetic this, diabetic that\u2026 I had to look closer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">First I picked up a box of <em>Diabetic Tussin. <\/em>It was marked \u201cSafe for Diabetics.\u201d Phew.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Then I found <em>Neoteric Diabetic Skin Care Shampoo and Scalp Care<\/em>. It was \u201cFormulated for the hair care needs of persons living with diabetes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I learned that if you need \u201crelief of diabetic foot pain,\u201d you can buy Z<em>ostrix Diabetic<\/em>. Or, go for <em>Barefoot Repair!<\/em> \u201cKit contains a pair of diabetic socks.\u201d I\u2019ve never worn diabetic socks but they sounded tempting.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-33264 lazyload\" title=\"Diabetic Socks\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Diabetic-Socks-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Diabetic-Socks-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Diabetic-Socks.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I also discovered <em>Diabeti-Derm Antifungal Cream. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Finally, I picked up Men\u2019s Ankle Socks and Ladies\u2019 Crew Socks. They were marked \u201cTreated to resist bacterial odors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I understand that companies are marketing to the very large population of people with diabetes. And I\u2019m sure these are fine products. But what is the magical ingredient that makes them special for people with diabetes? Couldn\u2019t people without diabetes benefit from them too? Is diabetic fungus really much different than the fungus of someone with a working pancreas? And on the flip side, if my scalp were dry, couldn\u2019t I buy a bottle of <em>Head and Shoulders <\/em>in the regular shampoo aisle and call it a day? Maybe I\u2019m na\u00efve. But these were the questions that were swirling through my head.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For better or for worse, the \u201cDiabetes Testing\u201d section painted an interesting picture of diabetes: one that marks us a different. One that says, <em>Hey, these people get their own aisle!
