{"id":3341,"date":"2009-12-09T06:26:35","date_gmt":"2009-12-09T11:26:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=3341"},"modified":"2015-12-27T15:44:32","modified_gmt":"2015-12-27T20:44:32","slug":"what-a-diabetic-sees-when-she-sees-circles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=3341","title":{"rendered":"What A Diabetic Sees When She Sees Circles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I\u2019m immensely interested in cosmology.\u00a0 Headlines like this one, \u201cThe Circular Logic of The Unvierse,\u201d in the NYT are sure to pull me in.\u00a0 \u00a0I won\u2019t claim to really understand anything about the universe, though. \u00a0I mean, I learned a few things in college, like, despite the claims of Akkadian poetry, Babylon was not &#8211; in fact &#8211; the center of the universe. \u00a0And I know that Aristotle was wrong too; the universe is not <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Geocentric\">geocentric<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"mceTemp\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<dl id=\"attachment_3342\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 200px;\">\n<dt class=\"wp-caption-dt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/kandinsky.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-3342   lazyload\" style=\"margin: 4px;\" title=\"kandinsky\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/kandinsky.jpg\" alt=\"kandinsky\" width=\"190\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"wp-caption-dd\">Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York\/ADAGP, Paris  Vasily Kandinsky, \u201cSeveral Circles,\u201d 1926. <\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In her essay, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/\">The Circular Logic of the Universe<\/a>,\u201d \u00a0Natalie Angier writes about looking at <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vasily_Kandinsky\">Vasily Kandinsky\u2019s<\/a> painting \u201cSeveral Circles,\u201d on a recent trip to the Guggenheim museum in New York.\u00a0 When Angier looked at the painting she thought \u201cof yeast cells budding, or a haloed blue sun and its candied satellite crew, or life itself escaping the careless primordial stew.\u201d \u00a0Guess what I thought when I saw this picture<em>?\u00a0 Hey!\u00a0 Cool!\u00a0 Those little red circles look just like drops of blood that pop out of my fingers and forearms when I check my blood sugar<\/em> (A note- I use Abbott\u2019s freestyle glucometer, and my favorite place to test is on my left forearm).\u00a0 So in response to the topic Catherine Price brought up earlier this week, <a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/catherine\/blogs\/type-1-blogs\/how-to-know-when-diabetes-is-taking-over-your-life\/3296\/\">How To Know When Diabetes Is Taking Over Your Life<\/a>, I offer this reply:\u00a0 when you begin to see your diabetes in works of fine art.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And speaking of testing\u2026 this morning I have a purplish bruise on my left forearm because yesterday I tested four times in a row in pretty much the same spot. \u00a0It all happened in the course of one hour during which I felt so tired that I was sure my blood sugar was over 200. \u00a0Each time I checked, however, I was between 89 and 120.\u00a0 The exhaustion, it seems, came from nothing more than regular old lack of sleep.\u00a0 For this I blame not diabetes, but Baby Adam (center and dictator of my universe), who thinks 4:45 a.m. is morning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":53098,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_relevanssi_hide_post":"","_relevanssi_hide_content":"","_relevanssi_pin_for_all":"","_relevanssi_pin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_unpin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_include_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_exclude_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_no_append":"","_relevanssi_related_not_related":"","_relevanssi_related_posts":"","_relevanssi_noindex_reason":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[1501],"tags":[417,97,419,418],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v22.9 (Yoast SEO v22.9) -
