However, you don\u2019t have to completely avoid all of your favorite foods. The key is to make a variety of healthy food choices and limit portion sizes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Follow these tips from the <a href=\"http:\/\/ndep.nih.gov\/resources\/ResourceDetail.aspx?ResId=218\" target=\"_blank\">National Diabetes Education Program<\/a> (NDEP) to help you eat healthful foods during gatherings throughout the winter season:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><strong>Eat a healthy snack.<\/strong> Eat a healthy snack before leaving home to prevent overeating at the party.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plan ahead.<\/strong> Check out the party food options before you begin eating, and make a mental note of what and how much you will eat.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bring a healthy dish.<\/strong> Bring a dish that fits into your meal plan and you can share with others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Move away from the buffet.<\/strong> Fix your plate, and then step away from a table of finger foods to avoid grazing while chatting.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Savor the flavor.<\/strong> Eat slowly to reduce your chances of overeating.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drink water. <\/strong>Water is a healthy, no-calorie beverage. Drink plenty of it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Trim it down.<\/strong> Eat smaller portions of food.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enjoy the party.<\/strong> Focus on family, friends, and activities rather than food.
