Diabetes Blog Week is here and each day presents an exciting new prompt. I loved the idea of writing a poem about diabetes (Tuesday\u2019s challenge). I was also interested in one of the wildcard options: \u201cpersonify a diabetes tool\u2026 let it speak through you.\u201d I decided to combine the two prompts and write a poem about diabetes from the perspective of something other than myself\u2026 but that something became someone: my 14 month old daughter.<\/p>\n

Me pick up blue pieces<\/p>\n

Me pull wire<\/p>\n
Me squeeze belly band-aid<\/p>\n

Me shake candies<\/p>\n
Me open drawer<\/p>\n
Me find little bottle<\/p>\n

She hides it all away<\/p>\n
Not for me to play<\/p>\n

She hugs me, says she cares<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why she won’t share<\/p>\n
Sounds silly to me<\/p>\n
But I’m just a baby<\/p>\n

Sometimes she is high<\/p>\n
She puffs a great big sigh<\/p>\n
Other times she cries<\/p>\n
Me no know why<\/p>\n

Sometimes she is low<\/p>\n
She moves very slow<\/p>\n
Daddy has to help<\/p>\n
Mommy sits and melts<\/p>\n

Maybe when I’m big<\/p>\n
She’ll tell me what it is<\/p>\n
For now me try my best<\/p>\n
