{"id":43899,"date":"2016-01-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-30T05:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/23-hilarious-diabetes-sniglets-we-just-made-up\/"},"modified":"2016-09-13T09:02:57","modified_gmt":"2016-09-13T13:02:57","slug":"23-hilarious-diabetes-sniglets-we-just-made-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=43899","title":{"rendered":"23 Hilarious Diabetes Sniglets We Just Made Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/iStock_Diabetes.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-38662 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/iStock_Diabetes.jpg\" alt=\"22 Hilarious Diabetes Sniglets We Just Made Up\" width=\"600\" height=\"449\" \/><\/a>When my brother and I were kids in the \u201880s, we loved <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sniglet\" target=\"_blank\">Sniglets<\/a><\/em>, a series of books popularized on the show <em>Not Necessarily the News. <\/em>A <em>sniglet<\/em> is \u201cany word that doesn\u2019t appear in the dictionary, but should.\u201d To play the Game of Sniglets, you could create a new nonsense word, repurpose an old one, make combinations, etc. They always made us laugh or made us think about funny situations, like <em>ambivilane<\/em> &#8211; the striped area by an exit ramp where people often pull off when trying to decide &#8220;Is this my exit?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A common word we often hear in the online community is <em>diaversary<\/em> \u2013 the anniversary of your diabetes diagnosis. Taking a page from diaversary, we came up with the following for our diabetes dictionary (which of course we would call a diadictionary).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diabetic &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>[old English] a term once used to describe people with diabetes<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diameter<\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 the distance travelled by a person with diabetes to reach his or her glucose meter<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diaphragm<\/strong> <em>\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 the muscle used for deep, calm breaths when someone asks,\u00a0<em>&#8216;Did you eat too much sugar?&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diabolical <\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 how one acts when\u00a0blood sugar is high<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>dialogue<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the conversation one has when meeting someone else wearing an insulin pump<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diagonal\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 \u00a0that perfect 45\u00b0 injection angle<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diatribe\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 the angry, frustrated rant a person with diabetes\u00a0goes off on when talking to their\u00a0endocrinologist<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diamond<\/strong> \u2013 the level of frequent flier miles you&#8217;d be at if you could count it in test strips<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diagnosis<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the day that will live in infamy<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diarrhea<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a condition caused by sugar free candy<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diagram <\/strong>&#8211; what you draw while trying to understand your deductible and co-pay<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diaper bag<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; what you need to carry all your diabetes junk<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diagnostic <\/strong>\u2013 when you\u2019re not sure whether you believe you took your dose or not<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diary <\/strong>&#8211; your BG logs<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>dia de los muertos<\/strong> &#8211; you the morning after a major low blood sugar<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And to get a little sillier\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diasaster<\/strong> \u2013 when you go to get that one last supply and realize you\u2019re already out<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diatitian<\/strong>\u00a0 \u2013 the one you have to answer to (besides your scale)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>dianother-day<\/strong> &#8211; our favorite James Bond film<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diamn shame <\/strong>&#8211; when you go low but you&#8217;re out of the good candy<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>dialicious\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; when it&#8217;s low carb but you can&#8217;t tell<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diavulge\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211; when you share your A1C with the DOC<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>dialate <\/strong>&#8211; when you&#8217;re late for work because of an eye exam<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>diapression<\/strong> \u2013 when dealing with diabetes sends you into overwhelm mode<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em><strong>What diabetes sniglet would you add?
