{"id":6558,"date":"2010-04-02T10:57:35","date_gmt":"2010-04-02T14:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=6558"},"modified":"2015-12-27T15:44:28","modified_gmt":"2015-12-27T20:44:28","slug":"a-shut-eye-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/asweetlife.org\/?p=6558","title":{"rendered":"A Shut-Eye High"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I just sat down to blog (I actually had a serious subject in mind) and felt my eyes starting to close.\u00a0 I am tired -for sure &#8211; but this is a different kind of eye-closing.\u00a0 This is what I call <em>shut-eye high<\/em>.\u00a0 The <em>high<\/em>, of course, refers to my blood sugar.\u00a0 I just checked and the meter says 191.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been months since I&#8217;ve seen a number over 180.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since my son is in the next room, I&#8217;m stopping myself from shouting out the F-word and instead, I&#8217;m going to blog out my frustration.\u00a0 Hearing Mike saying the word <em>insulin<\/em> in a sing-song voice (as in <em>hint, hint, you should take some), <\/em> is yet another source of frustration.\u00a0 Shouldn&#8217;t he, of all people, know better?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I have a very complicated relationship with insulin right now because I&#8217;m breastfeeding, which actually lowers my blood sugar.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t like to find myself going low while I&#8217;m holding the baby, so I would rather ride a little high.\u00a0 And I have been okay with finding myself at 150 -160 after meals, but 191 is just too high.\u00a0 (Side note: sometimes I have giant anxiety attacks about <em>what if Mike and I both go low while we&#8217;re sleeping<\/em>.\u00a0 So I&#8217;d rather be a little high at bedtime then face that.\u00a0 Mike has fairly frequent nighttime lows.\u00a0 Even if I don&#8217;t hear him get out of bed to go eat, in the morning I know what&#8217;s happened by the food wrappers and containers that he leaves on the counter).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I haven&#8217;t been exercising regularly for the last few weeks and this too has wrecked havoc on my blood sugar control. Control, control, control.\u00a0 I need some.\u00a0 I hereby pledge to count my carbs for real.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m going to start moving again, no less than a two-mile walk in the morning!\u00a0 I would go on, but my face is about to hit the keyboard.\u00a0 And the baby is starting to cry&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But one more thing: I took this quiz, Are You Attached To Sugar.\u00a0 It obviously isn&#8217;t designed for diabetics, but I really appreciated the photo of the loaf of bread flowing into sugar cubes.\u00a0 My result says that I have an unhealthy relationship with sugar.\u00a0 Go figure.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":53098,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_relevanssi_hide_post":"","_relevanssi_hide_content":"","_relevanssi_pin_for_all":"","_relevanssi_pin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_unpin_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_keywords":"","_relevanssi_related_include_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_exclude_ids":"","_relevanssi_related_no_append":"","_relevanssi_related_not_related":"","_relevanssi_related_posts":"","_relevanssi_noindex_reason":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[1501],"tags":[93,724],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v22.9 (Yoast SEO v22.9) - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>High Blood Sugar Leads to Exhaustion<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Type 1 diabetes blog: The high, of course, refers to my blood sugar.
