Lamb skin canteen
\nnew too many days
\nbefore I was
\nand was aware I
\nfilled it with blood
\nred wine they claimed
\nsweet like
\nmilk and honey
\nbut blood and frogs and hail
\nI filled it and
\nI held it
\nthe skin was soft then
\ntop still off then
\nand some spilled
\ntil I sutured the neck.
\nThis I said this
\ncanteen this bag this sack
\nof blood and flakes
\nof our desert this
\nI said this is me.<\/p>\n

This body now many
\nminutes days older
\nit has holes and
\nmy lamb skin it leaks
\nit drips and I
\nstitch each time
\ntwice nine soft skin
\npunctured to heal
\npierced to save the
\nfermented nectar inside
\nI fear I fight
\na losing battle
\nduct-taping my stitched tears
\nthis lamb skin liquid
\nit will pour out
\nwet and cold hail
\non my naked toes.
\nOne day I cry
\nEnough I say I am
\ndone and
\nI shake the silly
\nlamb skin canteen
\nuntil it flees
\nits innards over
\nevery wall and it
\nI we are finished
\ndead and done.<\/p>\n

To be new again
\nsomewhere else
\nwithout a stupid
