Diabetes and Donuts: Time to Stop the Stereotypes

Earlier this week, President Obama playfully skewered his Republican opponents calling them "cray" for dismissing the overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change. He then joked: "If you go to 100 doctors, and 99 of them tell you you have diabetes, you wouldn't say, 'Ah, that's a conspiracy. All 99 doctors got together with Obama to keep me from having bacon and donuts.'"

What started a year ago as a creative way to encourage people with diabetes to stay active has grown into a global campaign to raise awareness about the benefits of moderate exercise for people with diabetes and help fund two vital diabetes charities...

National Diabetes Awareness Month and World Diabetes Day

November is Diabetes Awareness Month and November 14th is World Diabetes Day, and there are many efforts, campaigns, and initiatives taking place. The American Diabetes Association has launched a video contest which runs throughout the month. Click here to find out how you can share your vision to stop diabetes. JDRF is running a campaign called Type 1 Talk, with a video introduction by Crystal Bowersox.

TuDiabetes and the Big Blue Test

November 14 is World Diabetes Day. On that day, at 14:00 hours (local time), thousands of people with diabetes will test their blood sugar, do 14 minutes of exercise, test again and share their results on TuDiabetes or on Twitter. The event is called The Big Blue Test because blue is the color associated with World Diabetes Day.

Excitement is building for the upcoming World Diabetes Day on November 14. The International Diabetes Federation reports more than 660 monuments- including the Empire State Building, London Eye, Christ the Redeemer, Burj al Arab and the Obelisque in Paris –will light up in blue this Saturday.
