USDA Recommends Eating More Fruit, Vegetables, Protein and Less Salt and Refined Grains

The US Department of Agriculture announced the release of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the federal government’s evidence-based nutritional guidance to promote health, reduce the risk of chronic diseases, and reduce the prevalence of overweight and obesity through improved nutrition and physical activity.

The new Dietary Guidelines focus on balancing calories with physical activity, and encourage Americans to consume more healthy foods like vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fat-free and low-fat dairy products, and seafood, and to consume less sodium, saturated and trans fats, added sugars, and refined grains.

    I am just thrilled that more and more people are realizing the need for a healthier diet for all of us – and for our children! We have spent the last year really focusing our diet on whole foods and now our kids really enjoy eating these! We hardly ever buy processed foods whenever possible and their favs are Kamut Wheat, quinoa, fresh fruits and veggies etc. It’s just great to see them eating and loving these things!
