The LAUSD is not properly designed to, nor can it handle children with diabetes. We learned this the hard way when the district nursing office called to tell us that Type 1 diabetes does not require full time nursing care at school.
After thorough research on diabetes service dogs, we decided to work with Diabetic Alert Dogs of America. On February 18, 2015, our son became the handler of a diabetes alert dog (DAD), a wonderful male Goldendoodle, appropriately named Jellybean.
Diabetes is so new, and the pain of it coming into our lives is still fresh. The sleepless nights are the only thing that’s consistent. I hate the feeling of running on fumes. If I don’t stay healthy, I can’t make sure you stay healthy. I am trying to put things in place to make sure that you do.
