Jeanette Valenti was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 14-years-old. She received her doctorate from the University of Denver in 2008 (PhD in Human Communication studies with emphases in interpersonal, family, and health communication). Her research primarily focuses on the relationships (romantic, family, and friends) people have with one another and what role diabetes and other chronic illnesses plays in those interactions. Jeanette teaches communication courses and has taught at the University of Northern Colorado, University of Denver, Colorado State University, and Metropolitan State College of Denver. Jeanette currently lives in San Diego with her husband and son.
