A Rainy Day, The Pictorial Version

Today was my first ever (yes, it’s true) JDRF walk, and my second ever Taking Control of Your Diabetes conference. Both on the same remarkably rainy day! To be honest, I am exhausted– so rather than talk, I’ll just show you some pictures:

It was a very wet day for the JDRF walk in Balboa Park, especially given how thin-skinned we San Diegans are.

But the walkers were determined to raise money to fight diabetes.

Some more literally than others.

There was face painting...

...and teaching...

...and singing in the rain.

I hung out with the Pediatric Diabetes Research Center crew as they shared how their researchers pursue a cure.

Many wore trash bags to stay dry...

...but the dogs were well prepared.

Rain or shine, the kids played...

...and told stories.

And I don't know what his story is, but I like it.

Meanwhile, back at the Convention Center, the Taking Control of Your Diabetes exhibit hall was refreshingly dry.

The sporty fellows at Insulindependence were setting up an indoor olympic-basketball-extravaganza.

It involved camping.

Manny Hernandez represented TuDiabetes and the Diabetes Online Community...

...along with David Edelman of DiabetesDaily.

These lovely ladies from Diabuddies mentor your diabetics.

Ooh! Ooh! Charlie Kimball!

And his fancy car, sporting the Novo Nordisk blue bull and the signatures of many fans.

In closing, chair dancing. 'Nough said.

And now I am home. Goodnight, Moon.

Thanks for posting all of this great pics, Karmel. It was awesome seeing you – smiling and upbeat as always. It must be that San Diego weather. ;)
