LifeScan Recalls OneTouch Verio IQ Glucose Meters

Life Scan has announced the voluntary recall of their OneTouch Verio IQ Meter. The reason given by LifeScan for the recall of the glucose meter is that under very specific circumstances the OneTouch Verio IQ Meter produces an error that causes the meter to turn itself off when a user attempts to access the “Results Log” to view stored test results. If this occurs, when the product is turned back on, the meter enters the “set up” mode and requires the user to confirm the date and time settings before being able to test again.

According to LifeScan this issue has no effect on the accuracy of test results or functions such as on-screen pattern notifications, averages, result tagging, or downloading and no data is lost. However, if the user does not confirm all settings, testing is not possible. Therefore, treatment may be delayed or a treatment decision may be made in the absence of a glucose result. Without testing, patients may experience high or low blood sugar.  LifeScan, therefore, has initiated a voluntary removal and replacement of all OneTouch® Verio IQ Meters in the U.S. and Canada. The company has already developed the software update to correct this issue and will resume product shipments in the mid- to late-March time frame.

Because the accuracy of test results is not impacted, patients will be advised that they can continue to use their OneTouch Verio IQ Meter with confidence until an updated meter is provided free of charge. OneTouch Verio Test Strips are not impacted by this issue.

In order to receive a replacement meter, LifeScan is asking patients to call LifeScan Customer Service at 1 888 567-3003. For more information go to http://www.onetouch.com/

I have only had my device about 2 mos.  It is already giving me erroneous readings, eg: within 2 min I get readings from 17.7 to 7.9.  I don’t trust the readings.  NO diabetic can allow that.  What’s happening??

I have also had no success at all downloading the driver for my meter.  I’m going to try again after I write this.  I amreally quite good at computers, nmo genious, but I can follow directions.  Let me know what, if anything you can do.
