This month the American Diabetes Association published the e-book edition of Targeting a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes: How Long Will We Have to Wait? (following the May 1st, 2013 publishing of the hard copy).
This new edition is a revised and updated version of the book that was first available in 2011 by diaTribe.
Back in 2009, Targeting a Cure began as a research project spearheaded by Lisa Rotenstein, who had just joined diaTribe’s parent company as a summer associate. The project progressed, others got involved, and by 2011 the once small project grew into an authoritative guide for patients on where the search for a type 1 diabetes cure actually stood.
The book offers hope, comfort and insight to those living with type 1 diabetes and their families, and also brings healthcare providers up to speed on treatments that might be available in the coming years.
The topics in Targeting a Cure have a least a decade of research ahead of them (except for the artificial pancreas), but they are also vitally important. These topics can so easily be overshadowed by treatments closer to completion or on the market, but shifting our focus helps us learn how the research on type 1 diabetes is evolving.
