ADA Twitter Chat: Diabetes and Travel

Diabetes and travel are kind of like oil and water: they don’t exactly mix. There are a number of factors that can influence how a person with diabetes and their supplies fare when traveling by bus, car, plane, or train. As a result, there are countless questions that arise when prepping for a big trip: will my supplies be stored safely? How will my blood sugar be on a five-hour flight? What if I didn’t pack my supplies according to TSA regulations and my trip gets delayed? With all these questions, are there any solid answers?

The American Diabetes Association intends to provide some answers via a Twitter chat that will take place on Thursday, May 8th, from 1 to 2 P.M., ET. The goal of this chat is to inform people with diabetes on their travel rights and general tips. It will be guided by Katharine Gordon, Director of the American Diabetes Association’s Legal Advocate Program.

If you are interested in participating in the chat with questions of your own, be sure to log on to Twitter at 1 o’clock on May 8th and follow @AmDiabetesAssn. Then, you can search for the hashtag #DTravel to find all of the tweets related to the travel chat. Even if you don’t use Twitter, you can still follow the chat by visiting Twitter.com and searching for #DTravel. Some sample promotional tweets include:

The chat is sure to be lively and helpful – you won’t want to miss it!
