DiabetesSisters To Host LA Conference

On October 24, hundreds of women with diabetes and their loved ones will descend upon the Embassy Suites LAX North for DiabetesSisters’ power-packed two day conference. This will be the eighth Conference hosted by DiabetesSisters and the first time it will convene in the Los Angeles, CA area.  It will also be the first time for the organization to open the entire event to both women with diabetes and their loved ones.

As the only conference of its kind for women with diabetes, the event offers opportunities for women of all ages, with all types of diabetes, from all walks of life, to gain the tools, strategies, resources, and connections needed to accelerate their success in every area of diabetes management. Attendees travel from all over the US and Canada, representing at least 20 US states at each conference. DiabetesSisters’ Welcome Team provides support to all first-time attendees to ensure a true “sisterhood” experience for everyone.   While there, attendees learn about the latest diabetes products, build their support networks and attend education sessions conducted by diabetes experts and well-known diabetes advocates. Conference topics include nutrition and clean eating, exercise, parenting, and depression.

This year, Kerri Sparling, author of the award winning blog, Six Until Me, will appear as the keynote speaker at the conference. Sparling has been called “captivating, genuinely hilarious, and a true inspiration” by a JDRF leader, and has been applauded for her “energy and emotion” at speaking events by Jeff Hitchcock, of Children With Diabetes. DiabetesSisters is thrilled to offer conference participants the chance to meet the award-winning blogger who grins through the tough times, and maintains her strong personality and sharp wit despite the burdens of the disease.

In addition to Kerri Sparling, LA radio talk show host, Mother Love, will be speaking on embracing happiness and beating depression when living with diabetes. Mother Love, has appeared in television and film, and is best known for her widely acclaimed talk show on LATalkRadio.com, which airs weekdays from2-4 pm. Mother Love has written three books, including the 2006 “Half the Mother Twice the Love,” about her journey from an unhealthy past to a healthy new beginning. Her vivacious spirit makes her an energetic activist in support of women living with diabetes, and she has done hundreds of radio interviews on behalf of the American Diabetes Association. Mother Love believes strongly in encouraging women to make their own PHDs, or Personal Health Decisions, which she has personal experience with, as a woman living with diabetes who has lost over 100 pounds. Using a mix of motivational techniques and humor, she has inspired other women to take an active role in their disease management, and has become a smiling face behind the disease.

The theme of DiabetesSisters’ 2014 Conference is Stepping Stones. “Diabetes management is a life-long marathon, not a sprint. The Stepping Stones theme represents the idea that success is achieved by taking small steps in diabetes management,” said Brandy Barnes, Founder and CEO of DiabetesSisters who has lived with diabetes since 1990.

Hate that they’re shortened the conference this year and gotten rid of the PP program.  I would have gone otherwise!
