iStock_ToothbrushDiabetics are at high risk for gum disease.  Studies have shown that poorly controlled diabetes can lead to gum disease.  And gum disease, like other infections, makes blood sugar more difficult to control.   Recent research also indicates that people who have gum disease are more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes later in life when compared to individuals without gum disease.
